The Neuro - Beijing Xuanwu Hospital (BXH) joint Conference

A delegation from BXH will visit The Neuro for a joint conference on recent research and clinical developments in neurodegenerative and neurovascular diseases, neuroimaging and cognition. The conference format will include open talks, round-table and group discussions. The visit will also be an opportunity to explore enhanced collaborations in medical education and postgraduate training programs. Program details will follow.

Background: Professor Zhao Yi-Cheng, one of the founders of Neurology and Neurosurgery in China and founder and the first Director of Beijing Xuanwu Hospital (BXH), trained at The Neuro under the guidance of Dr. Wilder Penfield in the 1930s. After returning to China, Professor Zhao devoted himself to clinical, teaching and scientific research in neurosurgery in China. Professor Zhao trained a large number of academic leaders who have further developed extensive neurosurgery networks located throughout the country. Professor Zhao and Dr. Penfield opened cooperation and collaboration between the two hospitals in basic research, clinical application, and technology innovation.

In recent years, these collaborations have been renewed. There have been active bilateral exchanges in the past few years and there are currently three postdoc fellows from BXH studying at McGill (Douglas; MUHC and The Neuro). Last year, nine Principal Investigators from The Neuro attended a Chinese national conference on Movement Disorders and Parkinson’s Disease in Beijing organized by BXH. Additionally, they were hosted at the BXH site. During that visit, both sides agreed to alternate joint scientific and academic exchanges each year.
