McGill Cares: Lessons from the End-of-life Journey of one of Canada’s Palliative Care Trailblazers

Wednesday, November 17, 2021 12:00to12:30

Join us on November 17, 2021 at noon for the next McGill Cares webcast to support informal caregivers. During candid, 30-minute interviews with leading experts, Claire Webster explores topics related to caring for a loved one with dementia.

Lessons from the End-of-life Journey of one of Canada’s Palliative Care Trailblazers

What happened when one of Canada's earliest promoters of palliative care, Kappy Flanders, was faced with her own mortality? Was she able to pass along lessons in dying to those closest to her?

In this webcast, Claire Webster speaks with Elle Flanders, the youngest of Kappy’s children who, along with her sisters, cared for their mother at home until her last breath. Elle will share insights from her mother’s final days, including one of the hardest topics in life, how to talk to one another about dying.

Elle Flanders is an award-winning filmmaker, artist and activist who has exhibited her work across the globe.  She is currently active with the Kappy and Eric Flanders Chair in Palliative Medicine as well as the Council on Palliative Care, and is an executive member of the International Congress on Palliative Care.

This episode of McGill Cares is made possible by the Zeller Family Foundation
