Master class with Gabrièle Dostie-Poirier, 2nd bassoon of the Orchestre Métropolitain de MontréalAbout Gabrièle Dostie-Poirier
Born in Outaouais in 1991, Gabrièle Dostie-Poirier became a member of the Orchestre Métropolitain in November 2014 as second bassoonist. She is regularly asked to perform with many ensembles throughout Québec such as Les Violons du Roy, I Musici, the OSM, the orchestras of Laval, Trois-Rivieres, Drummondville, Sherbrooke, Longueuil and Gatineau, and she has toured internationally with the Orchestre Métropolitain and Les Violons du Roy. She can be heard on recordings on the ATMA, SONY Classical and Deutsche Grammophon labels, as well as on soundtracks for the National Film Board of Canada and Tele-Quebec. She has also played with the Orchestre symphonique de l’Agora since 2013 and is currently first bassoon of the ensemble.
Gabrièle studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Mathieu Harel and Stéphane Lévesque, where graduated with distinction in bassoon and chamber music. During her musical training Gabrièle attended many different summer academies and programs such as the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades (France), Domaine Forget, Orford Arts Centre, Brooke Valley Bassoon Days, Orchestre Réseau des Conservatoires, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Before playing the bassoon, Gabrièle studied violin with the Vivaldistes de l’Outaouais between 1995 and 2010.

Master class with Kathleen McLean, bassoon professor at Indiana University, BloomingtonAbout Kathleen McLean
Kathleen McLean is Associate Professor of Music at the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University) as well as the chair of the Woodwind Department. Kathleen was invited to become a Yamaha Performing Artist and is a sought-after chamber and orchestral musician, recitalist, and teacher. Internationally recognized, McLean was the associate principal bassoon of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from 1992 to 2013. Since 2001, she has toured extensively with the prestigious World Orchestra for Peace under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
McLean’s former orchestral appointments include principal bassoon of the Canadian Opera Company and guest principal bassoon with the London Symphony Orchestra (UK) and the National Arts Centre Orchestra, as well as with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. McLean has participated in many chamber music festivals, including the Evian International Festival, Vancouver Chamber Music Festival, Scotia Festival, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. She is also a member of the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico.
She was appointed to the faculty of the University of Toronto in 1989, became a faculty member at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Glenn Gould Professional School in 2002, and began as a bassoon instructor with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2009. She performs frequently with New Music Concerts, Amici Ensemble, Octagon Chamber Ensemble and is a founding member of the Caliban Quartet, Toronto Wind Quintet, and Canadian Winds.
