Lunchtime Seminar "The End of Hospitality? Montréal in Perspective"

Friday, October 26, 2018 13:00to15:00
CIRM, room 100, 3438, McTavish St., Montréal, QC, CA

As part of its first lunchtime seminar of the 2018-2019 academic year, CIRM receives French philosopher and writer Guillaume le Blanc (University Paris-Est Créteil). He recently published with Fabienne Brugère La fin de l’hospitalité, a monograph on the notion of hospitality written in the midst of the dismantling of the Calais' "Jungle". If Guillaume le Blanc says he "saw the foreigner cease to be a host and become an enemy, a barbarian who must be removed and repelled", what about this notion of "hospitality" in Montréal?

The event, which will be held on October 26th, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, at CIRM (3438 McTavish St., room 100), will be hosted by Frédéric Dejean (Department of Religious Studies, UQAM / CIRM), and will also invite Jill Hanley (McGill School of Social Work), Aude Mary (Bureau d’intégration des nouveaux arrivants à Montréal) and Lida Aghasi (Centre social d'aide aux immigrants) to comment on the monograph based on their expertise.
