Abstract: We have succeeded in making tremendous progress in our understanding of the genetics of Parkinson’s disease over the last two decades. This work continues at a significant pace and, to a large extent, our current success is driven by collaborative, team-based research. Here I will describe our progress so far, particularly in the context of understanding risk in typical Parkinson’s disease. I will also discuss two ongoing initiatives led by our laboratory, the FOUNDIN-PD study and the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2). The former is currently a pilot of a study that aims to produce foundational molecular insights into the pathogenesis of disease using iPS modeling at scale. The latter is a global initiative aimed at accelerating genetic discovery, diversifying the ancestral basis of this research, and democratizing the research process.
The Killam Seminar Series at The Neuro
Supported by the generosity of the Killam Trusts, The Neuro’s Killam Seminar series hosts outstanding guest speakers whose research is of interest to the scientific community at The Neuro and McGill University.
