Jumpstart: Career Research in the Life Sciences

Thursday, September 15, 2022 15:00to16:00
Career Research in the Life Sciences

This is a new mini-series (3 sessions) for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the life sciences that will:

  • Teach two approaches to career exploration and research (online seminar)
  • Introduce peer exercises for career brainstorming (in-person workshop)
  • Create the opportunity for you to speak with a professional in the life sciences (individual work)
  • Assemble perspectives from a variety of life science professionals (online, trainee-led seminar)
  • Bring trainees together to meet and discuss career research, build their peer and professional networks!

How does it work?

The first two sessions in this series will be led by instructors.
There will be a 5-week break between the 2nd and 3rd sessions. During these 5 weeks, you will be responsible for conducting an informational interview with a professional in the life sciences.
The 3rd session will consist of trainees presenting the results of their informational interviews to their fellow trainees. In this way, trainees will acquire information about a variety of life science careers.

Schedule:

Online Seminar: Career exploration and career paths in the life sciences | Thursday, September 15th , 3 – 4pm

In person Workshop: Peer exercises and career brainstorming | Thursday, September 22nd , 9:30 – 10:45am.

Online, Trainee-Led Seminar: Results of informational interviews | Thursday, October 27th, 3pm (length will be determined by the number of participants in the cohort)
