Introduction to Jupyter Notebooks and Bash: Fun with EEG

Python is a versatile programming language, offering tools for a wide range of applications such as data analysis, statistics, AI, signal processing and so much more. Moreover, Jupyter Notebooks represent an elegant format to work with Python in an interactive and user-friendly environment. In this workshop, we will explore the basics of coding with Python using Jupyter Notebooks.

Simple analyses of electroencephalography (EEG) brain recordings will serve as the basis to our workshop, providing a concrete hands-on experience for practical learning. We will thus also learn about matrix factorisation methods such as PCA and ICA and derive statistical measures from the outputs of these algorithms. Furthermore, prior to performing EEG data analysis, we will use Bash terminal commands for mobilising data to desired locations. We will thus visit the basics of listing directory content, navigating across directories and manipulating files using Bash.
