Financial skills for the real world: Introduction to cryptocurrencies

Monday, March 20, 2023 16:00to18:00
 Introduction to cryptocurrencies

The last few years have seen phenomenal gyrations in the crypto markets. It's common for many cryptocurrencies to rise tens, or even hundreds of percentage points in value over several weeks and months, before crashing by 50-90% over a matter of days or weeks from any given peak. Are these merely speculative high-risk assets, legitimate business ventures that could completely change our economy, or thinly-vailed scams just waiting for a greater fool to come around and get parted with their money? Yes; turns out to be the answer to all three. If you want to learn about the basics of cryptocurrencies (what is Bitcoin, how it works, why it's valuable, what's the halving cycle, what's crypto mining, etc) and be able to understand what gives some true value while others are mere smoke and mirrors, this is a webinar that you cannot afford to miss. There are currently over 20,000 different cryptocurrencies; can you tell the difference between the ones that could end up being worth tens of trillions of dollars in the coming years from the ones that will vanish in a matter of weeks?

Learning Outcomes:
• Learn about cryptocurrency basics: private vs. public keys, mining, tokens, wallets, and much more.
• Familiarize yourself with potential risks of various types of altcoins or tokens.
• Learn about various cryptocurrency scams and ways to avoid them.
