From the nightingale to the phoenix, birds symbolize renewal, wisdom, and perseverance. Birds and birdsong have inspired composers and musicians for hundreds of years.

This exhibition highlights some of these works selected from the Music Library's collection, from Janequin to Charles Mingus.

Also featured is the McGill martlet, a mythical bird said to symbolize a continual search for knowledge and adventure. A little musical inspiration as we celebrate new beginnings, a new academic year, and new dreams taking flight!
