Monday, February 13, 2023 12:00to13:30

The ECC and McGill Formula Electric (FSAE) are pleased to host a session for students to attend and learn about Lithium-ion battery technology from Pierre-Olivier Cimon, Principal Engineer at Rimac Technology.

SUMMARY:

Lithium-ion battery technology has been an enabler for the on-going electrification revolution in the automotive industry.

However, battery systems remain challenging and often misunderstood due to their multidisciplinary nature. In order to fill that gap, this presentation will provide an overview of the current state of the art of battery technology and associated challenges.

Some key design guidelines will be presented followed by a discussion on next-generation battery technologies.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Pierre-Olivier Cimon holds a degree in electrical engineering from Laval University in Canada. He began his career as the technical lead of power electronics at BRP-Rotax working both in Canada and Austria. He then joined Rimac Automobili in Croatia in 2019, famous for it's world record breaking electric hypercars, and now holds a position as Principal Engineer being responsible for cross-functional R&D activities within a newly formed business unit.
