Discussion groups starting on equity and on pedagogy

What: more or less weekly 1h discussion on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion in the mathematical sciences and related fields. Usually someone does a short informal presentation, followed by discussion.

Who: anyone interested (faculty, grad or undergrad students, postdocs etc)

How: join our mailing list (low traffic) here to get reminders, online links etc (you will need to be on campus or using McGill's VPN -- or just ask me and I will add you)

Why: To educate ourselves about these issues and find ways to take action to be more supportive of fellow colleagues, students etc in the department.

Where and when: Wednesdays 2:30pm-3:30pm in BURN 708 and online, starting Sept 21

Pedagogy discussion group

What: biweekly 1h discussion on issues of teaching and pedagogy in the mathematical sciences and related fields. We'll decide what we'll do together at the first meeting, but a suggestion is to read the MAA Instructional Practices Guide over the course of the semester.

Who: anyone interested (faculty, grad or undergrad students, postdocs etc)

How: join our mailing list (low traffic) here to get reminders, online links etc (you will need to be on campus or using McGill's VPN -- or just ask me and I will add you)

Why: To learn about best practices and improve our teaching, whether that be as instructors, TAs, TEAMsters, tutors, course coordinators, etc.

Where and when: Wednesdays 11:30am-12:30pm in BURN 1205 and online, starting next week, Sept 28.
