DESA African & Diasporic Literatures Lecture Series
The Department of English Students Association is launching its first installment of regionally specific African and diasporic literatures. This first installment will focus on Nigerian and Yoruba traditions. DESA is pleased to welcome Titilope Sonuga—former Edmonton Poet Laureate and first poet to perform at a Nigerian presidential inauguration—as this year’s keynote speaker.

March 19, 6:00 - 9:00 pm: Public Lecture with Titilope Sonuga, Leacock 232
The event begins with a seminar open to McGill students and faculty on March 18, 2026 (5:30 PM–7:00 PM), moderated by Dr. Amber Rose Johnson; it continues with Sonuga’s lecture on March 19, 2026 (6:00 PM–9:00 PM). The lecture evening will include the keynote talk, a moderated small panel dialogue, a Q&A session, and will conclude with a reception of light refreshments.
