Decolonizing Arts, a Symposium
Decolonizing Arts, a symposium organized by Beverley Diamond (Professor Emerita in Ethnomusicology, Memorial University; Visiting Dean’s Chair, Schulich School of Music)
The Decolonizing Arts symposium is an interactive exploration of issues emerging in the expressive practices of Indigenous and other marginalized members of our community. The event brings together creative artists, educators and researchers across disciplines for conversation and reflection. Discussion points will include decolonization and affect, incommensurable histories, strategies for redress, possibilities of alliances, and values for a sustainable world. Morning sessions will focus on Indigenous resurgence while the afternoon will speak to other complex experiences of race, embodiment, relationality, and history.
Free to the public. Conducted in English.
