Changing How We See Mental Illness - Healthy and Well-being

Wednesday, May 6, 2020 12:00to13:00

Stigma is a major barrier preventing many people living with mental health problems from seeking help. Individuals with mental illnesses often report the stigma is worse than the illness itself. People are afraid of being labelled as weak, crazy or even dangerous. Presented by Micheal Pietrus, Director of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s international award-winning anti-stigma initiative Opening Minds, this presentation will review the best practice principles used by Opening Minds on changing how we see mental illness, and the lessons learned in implementing this targeted approach.
