Call for nominations: AES Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching Assistantship

The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences recognizes the important role played by teaching assistants (TAs) in undergraduate education. As a result, the Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence Award was created to acknowledge TAs who excel in their activities. The award is presented once a year to a TA who has demonstrated excellence in teaching scholarship and service. Awardees will receive a monetary award and a certificate from the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Eligibility criteria

Nominated candidates must: 

  • Be a TA (recognized as eligible under the collective agreement) who is registered as a full-time student.
  • Only students registered in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will be considered.
  • Be hired as a TA for a course administered by the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
  • Not be the instructor of a course.
  • Be nominated by the course instructor. 

Award evaluation criteria

A nominated TA must, as mentioned, have demonstrated teaching scholarship and service in executing his/her duties. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Outstanding effectiveness as an educator
  • Excellent command of the subject
  • Exceptional competence and diligence in the preparation of teaching activities
  • Capacity to motivate students

Additional considerations: 

  • Only activities associated with the course in the year of nomination (September 1 2024 - May 31, 2025) will be considered.
  • Past winners are eligible but preference will be to those who have never won this award. 
  • The award will be given out at the Convocation luncheon and ideally the winner would be available to receive it.

Nominations are due by April 30, 2025.
