A large-scale survey of the process for submitting research papers to scientific journals has revealed a surprising pattern: manuscripts that were turned down by one journal and published in another received significantly more citations than those that were published by the first journal to receive them.
Presentation by Margaret Rossiter (Marie Underhill Noll Professor of the History of Science at Cornell University) with introduction by Elsbeth Heaman (Associate Professor, History and Classical Studies, McGill University). This presentation launches WISEMS (Women in Science, Engineering and Medicine), a symposium to commemorate 100 years since Canada appointed its first female professor: Carrie Derick (1862-1941). WISEMS takes place October 13th from 1:30-7:00 pm in the Redpath Museum auditorium.
