Groundbreaking research from the University of Alberta and McGill University has opened the door towards the future prevention of cardiac fibrosis—a condition leading to heart failure for which there is currently no treatment.
Ranks first in Canada for increase in high-quality research publications from 2012 to 2015
McGill University ranks first in Canada and 37th globally in the Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars supplement, which identifies institutions showing the most significant growth in high-quality scientific research publications over the past four years.
Dr. Caroline Paquette, of our Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE), has been approved for a New Investigator Award on behalf of the Scientific Advisory Board of Parkinson Canada.
The award will aid Dr. Caroline Paquette in continuing the research project "Neuronal correlates of turning impairments in Parkinson's disease”.
Geneviève Saumier named as co-rapporteur of a Special Commission of the Hague Conference on Private International Law
In June 2016, the Hague Conference on Private International Law convened a Special Commission to prepare a draft Convention on the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters.
The Hague Conference appointed Professor Geneviève Saumier as a Co-Rapporteur of this Special Commission. She is one of two people charged in preparing the Explanatory Report that will accompany the finalized Convention, and she will be present during Convention negotiation rounds.
Dr. Michael Klein
Congratulations to Dr. Michael Klein, who has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his pioneering work integrating family medicine and maternity care in Canada. Dr. Klein is an Investigator Emeritus at BC Children’s Hospital and an Emeritus Professor Department of Family Practice and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia.
Faculty and alumni of our Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (ECP) were well-represented among awardees from this year's National Council on Problem Gambling, which recently concluded their 30th National Conference on Problem Gambling in Tarrytown, NY.
The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Scholarship
Eugene Bereza, MDCM'88, was elected president of the Canadian Bioethics Society. He also serves as the director of the newly founded Centre for Applied Ethics at the McGill University Health Centre.
Eugene is also a member of the Ministry of Health and Social Services' Groupe de travail interdisciplinaire sur l'aide médicale à mourir. The group aims to help prepare Quebec health care institutions for the implementation of Bill 52: An Act respecting end-of-life care, which legalizes euthanasia in Quebec.
