Levels of a small molecule found only in humans and in other primates are lower in the brains of depressed individuals, according to researchers at McGill University and the Douglas Institute. This discovery may hold a key to improving treatment options for those who suffer from depression.

Suicide has a terrible toll on most, if not all, societies around the world. Although we have made significant progress over the last decades in our understanding of risk factors for suicide, as well as in intervention and prevention strategies, much has yet to be learned and remains to be done.
