Darwin Day at the Redpath Museum

Sun, 2007-02-11 16:00
Redpath Museum : 859 rue Sherbrooke Ouest Montreal Quebec Canada , H3A 0C4

Dr. André Costopoulos, Anthropology, McGill: "What does it mean to be 98% chimp?" That's another way of asking, "What does it mean to be human?" We're both very similar to and different from our closest primate relatives. By examining the similarities and differences, we can learn about ourselves as we are now and about how we became human. Understanding how we differ from chimps is a good way to start understanding who we are.

Sun, 2007-01-14 16:00
Redpath Museum : 859 rue Sherbrooke Ouest Montreal Quebec Canada , H3A 0C4

Thomas Riedelshiemer, UK/USA/France, 2003: Follows Scottish artist Andy Goldsworthy as he uses natural materials to create site-specific pieces which he then leaves to be carried away -- or destroyed altogether -- by the elements. The artist explains as he creates that part of the beauty of his work is that it isn't lasting. A mesmerizing idyll that maneuvers us into a whole new way of looking at the delicate relationship between man, art and nature.
