Statistics show that 95 to 98 percent of all alarm calls are false. For Security Services, alarm call responses account for about 30 percent of our services. Hence, false alarms result in a great deal of unnecessary patrol dispatches.

Most of us use Google: the statistics are fairly clear. But how can we improve our search results or target our searches? This article explores some ways. Tips include finding similar terms, excluding terms, looking up definitions, restricting searches to specific sites, and more. Also useful is the Google Cheat Sheet. Just don't forget that you won't find everything through Google, and that our article indexes and databases are available to get you even further ahead in your scholarly research.

CSA has announced the inaugural CSA Sociological Abstracts Discovery Prize, intended to promote teaching and learning in sociology. The prize is open to both faculty and students, with a top award of $3,000 and honourable mention awards of $500. The submission deadline is April 15, 2006.
