2016 Annual Report for the Department of Pediatrics Now Available

"The calendar year 2016 represented our first full year on the new Glen site. Not only did we experience a cycle of seasons, we also experienced the entire academic cycle. It was thus a year of numerous ‘firsts’ however defined and relentless novelty. It was also a year of adaptations and adjustments to a new geography.

Women in Leadership Task Force Final Report Now Available

To date, there are disproportionately fewer women than men in leadership positions in the McGill Department of Pediatrics especially in the roles of Division Directors, Associate Chairs, Vice-Chair, Department Chair, Head of the Montreal Children's Hospital Child Health Research and designation of "professor". Therefore, the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics has mandated a Task Force to develop realistic action plans that can be implemented to engage more of the Department of Pediatrics female faculty to take on leadership roles.

Adjunct Professor Andrew King has been elected to the College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and will be inducted into the College at the RAIC/OAA Festival in Ottawa on May 24-27, 2017.

Numerous McGill alumni have been elected to the College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and will be inducted into the College at the RAIC/OAA Festival in Ottawa on May 24-27, 2017. Giovanni Diodati (BSc[Arch] 1988, BArch 1990) is a Senior Associate at EVOQ and a heritage materials conservation specialist.

Connectivity is more than a smartphone and online access

A recent article in Graphic Arts makes the point that the word “connectivity” brings to mind images of smartphones and online transactions, but that according to Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg, net-based communications do a poor job of building real interpersonal relationships.

AMT rejects Bombardier bid for new train cars, goes with Chinese firm

At one point, Bombardier would have been a shoo-in for the contract to build new commuter-train cars for Montreal’s Agence Métropolitaine de Transport, but not this time.

Instead, the contract is going to the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, which bid at $69 million, compared to Bombardier’s $103 million — and boasts a wait of six-months less for the new cars.

Brightly-lit Jacques-Cartier Bridge ideal for the Instagram age

A Montreal Gazette op-ed co-authored by Just For Laughs co-founder (and Desautels Global Expert) Andy Nulman (BCom'83) makes the case that the new lights on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, which were switched on for the first time on May 17th for Montreal’s 375th birthday, will help remake the bridge as a city landmark on par with the Eiffel Tower or the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Prof. Robert Mellin has been elected President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The RCA is an honorary organization of established professional artists and designers from all regions of Canada.
