Cindy Blackstock wins Human Rights Award

The Law Society of Upper Canada has named Cindy Blackstock, CRCF member from the School of Social Work, as one of the winners of the 2016 Human Rights Award. Established in 2013, the award recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of human rights and/or the promotion of the rule of law provincially, nationally or internationally. It is granted biennially to individuals for their devotion to these principles over a long term, or for a single, outstanding act of service.

Open forum for the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education provokes dialogue on indigenous issues

On Nov. 22, the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education hosted an open forum to discuss their progress and receive input from members of the McGill Community. The Task Force was launched Sept. 22 of this year with the purpose of creating initiatives focused on integrating indigenous viewpoints into all areas of academic life, including research and retention of indigenous students and faculty.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, over 50 people attended the first Open Forum on the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous Studies & Indigenous Education at McGill. The forum was held from 3-5 p.m. in the Lev Buhkman Room of the SSMU Building.  The purpose of the open forum was to generate ideas and discussion relating to the task force’s core themes.

Dr. Alexandre Barbier Appointed co-Director of Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program

Congratulations to Dr. Alexandre Barbier, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, who will be assuming the role of co-Program Director of the Perinatal-Neonatal Fellowship Program. Dr. Barbier is succeeding Dr. Louis Bartholomew, and will be working with fellow co-Program Director Dr. Julie Bartholomew from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Jewish General Hospital to direct what has been a successful training program with a high level of international participation.
