Author of "Mending Bodies, Saving Souls: A History of Hospitals" (OUP, 1999). Explores how the health care industry, consumerism, environmentalism, and a growing patients' rights movement have combined since the late 1970s to influence the design, spatial organization and management of US hospitals. Part of the 3rd conference of the International Network for the History of Hospitals (INNH), "Form + Function: The Hospital" June 19-21, hosted by the McGill School of Architecture.
