In late November, 18 McGill University researchers, led by Denis Thérien, vice-principal (research and international relations), visited India as part of the McGill Scientific Mission 2006. Their goal was to pave the way for future scientific partnerships with leading universities and institutions in such cities as Delhi and Bangalore, with the emphasis on the word "partnerships."

In May 2006, in Las Vegas, alumnus Fredric L. Carsley, BCL'74, LLB'75, a partner at De Grandpré Chait, was a recipient of the 2006 ICSC Trustees Distinguished Service Award, the highest award bestowed by the retail real estate industry, in honour of his dedication and hard work. For over 30 years, Mr. Carsley has practised commercial real estate law, with particular emphasis on major retail and office projects.
The deadline for the Social Determinants of Health: Challenges and Solutions photo contest has been extended to January 31, 2007. Submissions from amateur as well as professional photographers are welcome. Please see the Institute website for more details.
The Staff Benefits Advisory Committee (SBAC) has completed its annual review of the Benefit Plans. We are pleased to report that the financial status of all the plans remains very positive.
There will be a change to the tax treatment of the Staff Dependent Tuition Waiver policy effective January 1, 2007.
Last month the McGill chapter of CASCO (Commerce and Administration Student Charity Organization) held its annual fundraiser, and raised over $25,000 for the Montreal Children's Hospital. The fashion show and dinner has expanded each year and raised increasingly more money for the hospital. The CASCO fashion show is the most popular and anticipated event of the year at McGill. Since the McGill Chapter was founded, over $82,050 has been raised. Numerous pieces of much-needed equipment have been purchased with the donations.
