Appointment of R. Bruce Lennox as Dean of the Faculty of Science

McGill’s Board of Governors accepted the recommendation of Principal Suzanne Fortier to appoint Prof. R. Bruce Lennox as Dean of the Faculty of Science at its meeting on 21 May 2015. Prof. Lennox will take office on 1 July 2015 for a five-year term.

Gift from graduate William Ritchie forms centrepiece of $2.5-million plan to educate the public, open campus to more visitors

A $1-million gift from Macdonald College of McGill University alumnus J. William Ritchie, BSc(Agr)'51, will provide major support for McGill’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in its efforts to open its Macdonald campus to more visitors and provide a unique, hands-on education into the critical role of agriculture in the food supply chain.

Dr. René St-Arnaud, Associate Faculty Member, appointed as Director of Research of Shriners Hospitals

Congratulation to Dr. René St- Arnaud for being appointed as Director of Research of Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Canada. Appointed Acting Director of Research in 2011, Dr. St-Arnaud also holds cross-appointments as a tenured Full Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Human Genetics at McGill University, where he is also cross-appointed to the Faculty of Dentistry.

Artists-in-Residence to join Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education is pleased to announce that two Artists-in-Residence have been appointed via the P. Lantz initiative for Excellence in Education and the Arts. As part of this five-year endowment, Maria Ezcurra will begin her appointment in May, and Jimmy Baptiste will start in September. The two are poised to support and mentor students and faculty members in their understanding of the languages of art, and the ways in which art can be integral to building knowledge across disciplines.

Alexander McComber (MEd 1996) to receive Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science

Education alumnus Alexander Michael Otsehtokon McComber (MEd 1996) has been selected as recipient of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from Queen's University. Alexander McComber "has worked with a number of national diabetes organizations including Health Canada's Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative," wrote Queen's Gazette in their recent announcement.
