Some investors seem to be taking advantage of a loophole in financial regulations to cast shareholder votes that are far out of proportion to the number of shares they actually own, suggests a new academic study, "Vote Trading and Information Aggregation." The study, by finance professors Susan Christoffersen of McGill University in Montreal, Christopher Geczy and David Musto of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Adam Reed of the University of North Carolina, has been circulating in academic circles for several months. L'Oréal's innovative recruitment tool, L'Oréal e-Strat Challenge, acknowledged the outstanding achievement of Canada's McGill University at the International Final held yesterday in Paris. Teammates Jackin Ngan Kwong, Wang Leung and Pamela Ly-Peng placed second at the undergraduate level by demonstrating their business savvy before an executive panel of some of the L'Oréal Group's most senior management as well as international figures from business consulting and media circles.
