The F-MR Lab: Culture

Friday, June 18, 2021 12:00to13:30

Where are culture and creativity in Montreal in 2021?

For this last event of The F-MR Lab series, MR-63 and CIRM invite you to a discussion, moderated by Laurent Vernet (guest researcher, UdeM), on the state of culture in Montreal and its institutionalization.

What are the specificities of culture and its metropolitan institutions? Do cultural institutions need to be rethought in light of current social, cultural and economic realities? How can we attract audiences or create audiences?

More specifically, MR-63 will soon become a new permanent venue for the dissemination of art, design and gastronomy in Griffintown and will, at the same time, become part of Montreal's cultural ecosystem. After having occupied transitional spaces (with Station F-MR and Phase 1), MR-63 will become an institution in its own right and will have to be on the lookout for audiences as well as for trends and needs in the milieu. What are the issues to be considered for MR-63 during this transition from ephemeral performance space to new institution? How does MR-63 participate or not in the institutionalization of culture? If MR-63 chooses to contribute to the democratization of art, how can it achieve this?

The F-MR Lab explores, in four monthly events, possible issues and questions that arise from the creation and management of MR-63, the future venue for art, design and gastronomy in Montreal.
