CIRM Seminar: Understanding Migration

Wednesday, April 3, 2019 16:00to17:30
CIRM room 100, 3438 McTavish St., Montreal, QC, CA

"Syrians, Haitians, Latinos. We are all equal in this experience: storing a whole life in two small suitcases."

Resulting from the collaboration of 23 participants, the collective work Récits du cœur, Carnets de migration à Montréal is the product of a desire to meet these men and women who have one day packed their bags and to collect the testimony of immigrants and newcomers. By means of writing workshops and discussions conducted in partnership by the Ahuntsic Library, Concertation-Femme and the Carrefour d'aide aux nouveaux arrivants, each participant was able to reveal himself by drawing on his emotions, his memories, and his experience.

This seminar, moderated by Professor Annick Germain (Axis Co-Director at CIRM), will be the occasion to explore the experience of migration through the testimonies collected, together with co-authors Maysoun Faouri (Director, Concertation-Femme) and Yara El-Ghadban (President, Espace de la diversité).
