Derek Bowie

Department:  Pharmacology

Appointments:  Associate Professor; CRC Tier II

Research:  The Bowie Lab studies ionotropic glutamate receptors (iGluRs) and GABA-A receptors that are implicated in disease states associated with postnatal development (e.g. Autism, Schizophrenia), cerebral insult (e.g. Stroke, Epilepsy) and aging disorders (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, Parkinsonism). The goal is to understand the role that iGluRs and GABA-A receptors fulfill in shaping the behaviour of neuronal circuits, how these processes may be corrected in disease states and the development novel therapeutic compounds.
