Reporting to the Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning), the Senior Director provides leadership to a dedicated team in McGill Athletics and Recreation who work in the areas of high-performance sport, campus recreation, communications and marketing, facilities, alumni relations and business operations. The Senior Director will work to support the continued successes of the Varsity and Campus Recreation programs.
- Provide visionary leadership and establish a long-term vision based on the Unit’s new strategic plan. Oversee and promote the strategic plan and gain buy in from all staff within Athletics and Recreation, and from the larger McGill community;
- Lead the implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit and the University. Conduct research to guide and support development of new programs/project concepts in areas of need identified for Athletics and Recreation;
- Oversee the development and vision of programs aimed at encouraging a lifelong commitment to health and wellness, and enable a culture of healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy campus;
- In collaboration with University Advancement, develop concept descriptions that will feed into the creation of (Case for support) proposals to potential donors or sponsors. Contribute to the University’s 200th anniversary fund raising campaign; Liaise with donors and cultivate long-term relationships;
- Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to senior staff, in the areas of Sport Programs, Campus Recreation, HR, Finance, Marketing and Communications, and Macdonald Campus operations. Guide the above staff in accomplishing the goals and objectives of their areas as well as assisting in the further development of leadership skills.
- Participate in the negotiation of terms of agreements with several large clients and tenants including professional sports teams. Serve as signing authority within Athletics and Recreation and fulfill the responsibilities of Financial Fund Manager.
- Manage an annual operating budget of $14 million; hold managers responsible for achieving budget expectations;
- Provide leadership to the development and implementation of learning outcomes for all varsity, high performance, and recreation programs; ensure that the design, promotion and delivery of leading edge programs meet the needs and diversity of the McGill community;
- Champion a culture of respect, equity and diversity, and ensure that staff training addresses all aspects of equity, including gender equity, sexual diversity, universal accessibility and inclusion;
- Forge strategic partnerships with key wellbeing stakeholders on campus as well as represent the university in the business, government and sport communities.
- Serve as a member of Student Life and Learning’s executive team, participating in monthly meetings.
