Dr Maniatis received his MD and completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at McGill University. He received his MSc after completing his training in Bioethics at McGill. He is currently an Assistant Physician at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University Health Centre and is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill. He is the course coordinator for Communication Plus, a course on advanced topics in communication designed for final-year undergraduate medical students. He has assumed the role of McGill Internal Medicine Training Program Director in 2003.

Dr Maniatis is the clinical ethicist at the Douglas Hospital, and is an Affiliate Member of the McGill Biomedical Ethics Unit. He sits on one of the Research Ethics Committees at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and is a member of the Quebec and Canadian Medical Association's Ethics Committees. He is a member of the Commission de l'Ethique de la Science et de la Technologie (CEST), a provincial ethics committee that reports to the Minister of Research, Science and Technology.
