The Biology Department at McGill University stands in support of our Asian and Asian-Canadian students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends in the face of rising anti-Asian racism in Montreal, across Canada, and internationally.
We express both sadness and outrage that the Asian members of our community are experiencing unprecedented levels of anti-Asian racism in their day-to-day lives, especially since the start of the pandemic. We recognize that Canada has a long history of anti-Asian racism which has contributed to the current climate, and believe that recognizing our past failures is necessary to create a more inclusive and equitable future.
We encourage everyone in the community to educate themselves and work to counter anti-Asian racism, and all forms of racism. Don’t be silent, but speak out against racism: use these resources to find out how.
To members of our community who have experienced racism, please do not suffer alone, but find the support that you need. You can also reach us in the Biology department through the EDI committee for support or to share ideas or resources with us.
