List of master's-level courses

Students must complete six (6) credits from 500-600 level complementary courses. Courses can be found in the McGill Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Calendar available on the web.

VERY IMPORTANT: Adding extra course requirements OVER the six (6) credits, have to be brought to the attention of christine.laberge [at] mcgill.ca (Christine Laberge), Student Affairs Officer, before the ADD/DROP period.

Master of Science (M.Sc.); Biochemistry (Thesis) (45 credits)

Students must complete 45 credits. Of the 45 Master's credits, 39 credits are thesis courses and the Research Seminar course.

Plus additional credits, to a minimum of 6 total complementary course-credits, of 500- or higher level courses in the biomedical and allied sciences.

Complementary courses are chosen in consultation with the research director. The Graduate Advisory Committee may stipulate additional coursework depending on the background of the candidate. BIOC 450 (Protein Structure and Function) and BIOC 454 (Nucleic Acids) are additional requirements for those who have not previously completed equivalent courses in their prior training.

Courses required for a Ph.D transfer

In order to transfer directly from the M.Sc. to the Ph.D. program, students must complete and pass Seminars in Biochemistry (BIOC 696), 6 credits of complementary courses as well as the Research Seminar 1 (BIOC 701).
