How the budget cuts might affect ASAP 2012

I am very pleased to welcome you to the website for ASAP 2012: Achieving Strategic Academic Priorities. It was designed by and for the McGill community to ensure and advance the University’s position as a world leader in higher education. Building on its predecessor, Strengths and Aspirations: A White Paper Call to Action (2006), ASAP 2012 is the product of eighteen months of consultation and collaboration across our campuses. It clarifies the centrality of our academic strategic plan as the reference for other University plans at all levels, and with other strategic statements, serves as a roadmap for the next five years.

Despite the extraordinary financial challenges we now face, we intend to pursue our critical priorities over the next five years. We will not be able to accomplish everything at once. Our plan for achieving our priorities must take into account the new financial circumstances we now face, and the cuts for 2012 and 2013 announced by the provincial government have created very challenging circumstances. Nevertheless, guided by ASAP 2012, we will ensure that our decisions are poised to lead McGill to a sustainable future, one that is grounded in quality, accessibility, and sound fiscal management.

I sincerely thank you for your participation in the planning process for ASAP 2012, and I invite you to visit this website and to offer your comments and suggestions.

- Prof. Anthony C. Masi, Provost
