The intention of this residential design project is to conceive an apartment building that functions as a community.
The relationship of socio-economic trends (overpayment for imported vegetables and lack of land for traditional farming) and the desire to grow food and create attractive yards have lead to the proliferation of edible landscaping and affected the residential design nowadays. Our proposal allows to connect residential building and vertical farm as two mutually reinforcing elements. The design provides residents with different levels of involvement in growing food, allowing every unit not only to have its own private balcony, but also share the communal green space. Simultaneously, the vertical farm acts as the centre of the residential community that brings fresh food to the city all year round and forms an essential part of sustainable residential development.
