Transportation
A variety of travel choices are available to students. The School has looked into the most economical way, which is by bus. A minimum of 25 students is required. (If 25 students take the chartered bus, the cost will be approximately $184, taxes included; if more students join, the cost will go down.) A certified cheque (no personal cheque) or money order for $184 Canadian, made payable to “Globalalliance”, must be dropped off or mailed to the School of Architecture, c/o Mary or Veena, 815 Sherbrooke St. West, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H3A 2K6, and must be received as quickly as possible.
We hope to confirm the bus as soon as possible. If successful, students travelling with the bus will be informed by e-mail of their reservation as well as the exact time and location of departure. At this time we intend to leave on Wednesday, August 18, at 8:00 a.m., in front of the Roddick Gates (corner of McGill College and Sherbrooke). The return from Bar Harbor to Montreal is scheduled to depart on Friday, August 27, 2004, at 12:00 noon.
There is room for 5 to 6 bicycles on the bus; therefore permission to bring your bicycle will be granted on a first-come/first-served basis. Last-minute bicycles will not be allowed.
Travel by train was also looked into, but it is more expensive!
Van rental may also be quite economical for groups of 6-7 people.
Health Insurance
As you will be travelling in the USA, a health insurance policy is MANDATORY. Although some of you may have the McGill Health Insurance Plan, it probably does not cover you sufficiently for travel in the USA. Therefore, you are strongly encouraged to purchase additional health insurance. A group health insurance plan has been investigated and is very economical; the cost for students up to 36 years of age will be $41, taxes included. Please provide your full name, date of birth, and citizenship by Monday, August 2, 2004. The procedure for payment will be similar to that for the chartered bus.

Required Equipment
Water colours, water colour paper, brushes, pencils, pen and ink, conte crayon, sketch books and drawing paper of varying sizes and types. Sketch pads, sheet material and watercolour blocks should range from 9" x 12" to 18" x 24".
Bicycles have always been valuable additions to the standard "kit" and are highly recommended. We have also found that a folding camp stool or small foam pad can make 2 to 3 hours on the cold ground much more endurable.
Rendezvous / Class Meetings
The entire class is scheduled to meet for the first time for an introduction and orientation session at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Agamount Public Park at the north end of Main Street, at the corner of Main and Newport Drive. Please check here for changes to the schedule or meeting place. The first day's work will be discussed at this time.
Four other class meetings will be held for general discussion and review of work. They will take place at the auditorium on the second floor of the Bar Harbor Municipal Offices (93 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor) from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on the following dates:

- Tuesday, August 24
- Thursday, August 26
Evaluation
Evaluation of work is based on quality and quantity (a minimum of 20 works). All portfolios must be left in the freehand drawing room (one pile for Sketching School 1 and another for Sketching School 2) by 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, in Room 508.
Each student is required to attend one Sketching School for the B.Sc.(Arch.) degree (ARCH 324) and a second Sketching School for the MArch I (Professional) degree (ARCH 680). Registration for ARCH 324 is possible up to August 18, 2004. Registration for ARCH 680 must be done by September 1, 2004 on the Minerva registration system.
