How to Become an Arbitrator?

It is not necessary to be a lawyer or a notary in order to act as an arbitrator. Neither is it necessary to be accredited or even to have followed any particular courses. A strong training is however an excellent asset. Courses are regularly taught by the Canadian Commercial Arbitration Centre and the Barreau du Québec. In addition, the Université de Sherbrooke offers, as part of its continuing education programme and in partnership with the Institut de médiation et d'arbitrage du Québec, an intensive, week-long training which leads to official accreditation as an arbitrator. The course usually takes place in the third week of August. For more information, please consult the Université de Sherbrooke's website (in French).
