If you are completing a Canadian provincial high school diploma at a school located outside Canada, please see below.

If you are completing the IB Diploma concurrently with a Canadian high school diploma outside Canada you must apply as ‘IB Diploma’. Consult the IB Diploma page for more information.

Admission review process

If you are completing a Canadian provincial high school diploma at a school located outside Canada, you must indicate on the application that you are pursuing your studies at “High school outside Canada/US”. Note that:

  • Deadlines are the same as for applicants from schools outside Canada.
  • Transcripts and any other required supporting documents must be uploaded via Minerva. Proof of English Proficiency must be submitted directly to McGill by the test provider.
  • If you are completing an Ontario diploma and you have an OUAC number, you must still upload your transcript(s) via Minerva.
  • If admitted, you are expected to maintain your level of academic performance through to the completion of your pre-McGill studies and be granted the high school diploma.

Admission review is based on McGill’s calculation of your academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses, including the prerequisites for the program(s) to which you applied.

  • Marks for failed/repeated courses are taken into consideration.
  • For programs where science and/or math are prerequisites, these must normally have been completed within the last five years.
  • Required prerequisites must be completed at the Grade 12 (Ontario 4U) level.
  • Grade 11 and Grade 12 (Ontario 3U and 4U) English will be included in the calculation, in addition to any required prerequisite subjects.

Minimum grades and prerequisites

Admission to McGill is competitive and subject to availability of space.

Minimum required averages have ranged between 80% to 96%, depending on the program; average requirements can fluctuate up or down in any given year. Many programs are competitive; applicants who present the minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission.
