Prerequisite courses and McGill's competitive admission process: 
  • No specific subject prerequisites
  • Letter of Intent for all B.Ed. programs except Physical Education (see below: Additional Requirements for Education)
  • Mathematics (minimum of precalculus), at the senior high school level, is recommended for applicants to the B.Ed. Secondary (Mathematics)
  • It is recommended that applicants to the B.Ed. Secondary (Science and Technology) meet the same requirements as for Kinesiology

B.Mus./B.Ed. applicants must also meet Music requirements.

The normal basis for admission is completion of the credentials that lead to university admission in your country of study. Students who have completed or will complete these or other recognized pre-university diplomas (such as the European Baccalaureate) are eligible to apply to McGill.

Given McGill’s competitive admission process and the academic rigour of all programs, applicants from overseas vocational and technical high schools are not normally considered for admission.

Applicants are reviewed on their high school transcript with particular emphasis on yearly averages and results in prerequisite subjects.  Prerequisite subjects must have been completed during the last two years of high school.

The minimum requirement is the equivalent of a B+ average, and B+ in prerequisite subjects.  Many programs will have higher minimum requirements.

All grades are taken into consideration, including those of failed or repeated courses.

Admission is competitive and presentation of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

A maximum of 30 credits advanced standing can be granted for final results in the Abitur, the Bagrut, and the European Baccalaureate for students entering the Faculties of Arts, and Education, and a maximum of 27 credits can be granted for students entering the Desautels Faculty of Management.
