DEFINITION An academic staff member appointed to a pre-tenure-track position for a non-renewable definite term of one year. On the fulfillment of the condition(s) specified in the letter of appointment, will be appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The Regulations Relating to the Employment of Tenure Track and Tenured Academic Staff (RRETTTAS) govern this academic classification.

Joint Appointment Possible? "Joint" status cannot be indicated for the Assistant Professor (Special Category) position, instead:
(i) use an Associate Member appointment in Banner;
(ii) indicate joint affiliations via the Labour Distribution on the ARC### position code.
Recommended Minimum Credentials ABD (all but dissertation) PhD degree in progress at time of appointment, or other conditions. RRETTTAS-6.5.1.

Normally the Assistant Professor rank minima is used unless appointed as "nil salary".
