AWARDS

CRC Tier 1 AFU995 • Used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a CRC Tier 1.
• The appointment length is seven years.
• The default is zero salary, using the CRC's fund code.  Any approved CRC stipend must also be paid via this code.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the CRC T1 awarding memo issued by the Office of the AP-ASPI, and stipend only upon approval of the AP-ASPI.
Canada Research Chairs
CRC Tier 2 AFU994 • Used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a CRC Tier 2.
• The appointment length is five years.
• The default is zero salary, using the CRC's fund code. Any approved CRC stipend must also be paid via this code.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the CRC T2 awarding memo issued by the Office of the AP-ASPI, and stipend only upon approval of the AP-ASPI.
Canada Research Chairs
James McGill Professor AFU999 • Used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a James McGill Professor.
• The appointment length is seven years.
• The JMP stipend is paid via this code and must use the JMP Fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the JMP awarding letter issued by the Provost.
James McGill Professors and William Dawson Scholars
William Dawson Scholar AFU998 • Used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a William Dawson Scholar.
• The appointment length is five years.
• The WDS stipend is paid via this code and must use the WDS Fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the WDS awarding letter issued by the Provost.

NAMED/ENDOWED CHAIRS/PROFESSORSHIPS

Named Chair (Honorary) AFN992 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a Named Chair which does not carry any endowment.
• The appointment length is five or seven years.
• This position is zero salary. The Endowed Chair's spend fund code, created for record-keeping purposes only, must be used.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Endowed Chair awarding letter issued by the Provost.
Named Chair Appointment or Reappointment Process
Endowed/Named Chair AFU996 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a regular University-based Endowed/Named Chair.
• The appointment length is five or seven years.
• The default is zero salary, using the Endowed/Named Chair's spend fund code. Any stipend must also be paid via this code and must use the Endowed/Named Chair's spend fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Endowed/Named Chair awarding letter issued by the Provost.
Named Chair Appointment or Reappointment Process
Endowed/Named Chair (Hospital-based) AFU989 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of a University Endowed/Named Chair based at a Hospital.
• The appointment length is five or seven years.
• The default is zero salary, using the Endowed/Named Chair's spend fund code. Any stipend must also be paid via this code and must use the Endowed/Named Chair's spend fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Endowed/Named Chair awarding letter issued by the Provost.

Endowed/Named Professor AFU992 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• This code is used to record the appointment of an Endowed/Named Professorship.
• The appointment length is five or seven years. The default is zero salary, using the Endowed/Named Professorship's spend fund code. Any stipend is also to be paid via this code and must use the Endowed/Named Professorship's spend fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Endowed/Named Professorship awarding letter issued by the Provost.

Direct-Funded Chair AFU988 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• Direct-Funded Chairs have defined-term funding. This code is used to record the appointment of a regular Direct-Funded Chair.
• The appointment length is five or seven years.
• The default is zero salary, using the Direct-Funded Chair's spend fund code. Any stipend must also be paid via this code and must use the Direct-Funded Chair's spend fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Direct-Funded Chair awarding letter issued by the Provost.

Direct-Funded Professor AFU991 • Normally used in conjunction with a tenure-track or tenured appointment.
• Direct-Funded Professorships have defined-term funding. This code is used to record the appointment of a regular Direct-Funded Professorship.
• The appointment length is five or seven years.
• The default is zero salary, using the Direct-Funded Professorship's spend fund code. Any stipend must also be paid via this code and must use the Direct-Funded Professorship's spend fund.
• Minerva Appointment Form approved only upon receipt of the Direct-Funded Professorship awarding letter issued by the Provost.

STIPEND CODES

CAS Ranked AK Stipend
(Campus-based staff)
AFU982 • Must be used in conjunction with a CAS ranked appointment (AK####) which is normally zero salary.
• For the taking on of teaching or other duties for a short period of time. For any amount over $25,000, approval of the Academic Personnel Office must be obtained.
CAS Ranked Clinical AW Stipend
(Hospital-based staff)
AFU986 • Must be used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical teaching-hospital-based appointment (AW####).
• Stipends cannot exceed $40,000/annum, any excess will be paid using the AW Other Payment code.
• This stipend code is to be used for payments that are meant to be pensionable and benefitable (minimum threshold $25,000/annum with a maximum amount of $40,000/annum.
• AW Other Payment is used for payments that are below $25,000/annum or the overflow of payments over $40,000
• Where the specific terms of an external agreement awarding the stipends dictates the full amount must be paid as a stipend, this code will be used. Supporting documentation must be provided.
CAS Ranked Clinical AU Stipend
(Affiliated Institutions staff)
AFU985 • Must be used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical affiliated-institution-based appointment (AUN### or AU####).
• Stipends cannot exceed $40,000/annum, any excess will be paid using the AU Other Payment code.
• This stipend code is to be used for payments that are meant to be pensionable and benefitable (minimum threshold $25,000/annum with a maximum amount of $40,000/annum.
• AU Other Payment is used for payments that are below $25,000/annum or the overflow of payments over $40,000
• Where the specific terms of an external agreement awarding the stipends dictates the full amount must be paid as a stipend, this code will be used. Supporting documentation must be provided.
Hospital Administration ATU998 • Normally used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical teaching-hospital-based appointment (AW####).
• Maximum amount on this stipend code is $40,000/annum.
Hospital Appointment ATU999 • Normally used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical teaching-hospital-based appointment (AW####).
• Maximum amount on this stipend code is $40,000/annum.
Other Academic Stipend AFU997 • Must be used in conjunction with a ranked academic appointment.
• Time-limited salary award in recognition of outstanding performance of academic duties, usually linked to research.
• Must obtain approval of the Academic Personnel Office.

All payments made via any of the payment codes listed below are ineligible for either pension and benefits.
CAS Clinical AW Other Payment
(Hospital-based staff)
AFU984 • Must be used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical teaching-hospital-based appointment (AW####).
CAS Clinical AU Other Payment
(Affiliated Institutions staff)
AFU983 • Must be used in conjunction with a CAS Clinical affiliated-institution-based appointment (AUN### or AU####).
Supplemental Teaching Payment AFU990 •  Applies to tenure-track & tenured academic staff, or ranked CAS and Visiting academic/librarian staff on salaried positions, whose normal duties include teaching.
Temporary Payment AFU993 • temporary salary increases resulting from secondments to outside institutions
• temporary salary payments (payments over and above the individual’s regular McGill salary) resulting from salary awards obtained from outside agencies (excluding CRC stipends)
• Must obtain approval of the Academic Personnel Office.
