McGill AMR Centre at EDAR8, August 2-7, 2026

Seven members of the McGill AMR Centre participated in the 8th Environmental Dimension of Antimicrobial Resistance conference (EDAR8) in Queensland, Australia. The McGill delegation delivered three oral presentations and presented three posters, while also collaborating with colleagues from Virginia Tech to lead a serious game workshop exploring policies for controlling AMR dissemination. Building on the success of EDAR7, hosted by the McGill AMR Centre in 2024, and with the goal of strengthening ties within the international environmental AMR community, the Centre supported the conference as a Silver Sponsor and as a dedicated sponsor of the serious game workshop. Following the tradition of rotating between Asia/Pacific, Europe, and the Americas, the delegates agreed to meet in 2028 in Porto (Portugal) for EDAR9.

Public outreach activity: EDAR7 Human Library

If you are unfamiliar with the concept, it’s exactly like it sounds – a library of people. We had a library of 54 scientists as Books, and members of the public reserved Books for a 15-minute conversation. An amazing opportunity, members of the public and scientists connected on a one-to-one level to understand the threat of AMR, the science, and the challenges of the research.

EDAR7 recognized as a ‘’Major Event’’ during the 2024 Ambassadors’ Gala

On April 4, 2024 Prof. Dominic Frigon, Chair of EDAR7 edition, was honored during the 34^th Gala des Ambassadeurs. Prof. Frigon was amongst the 14 Ambassadors honored for their contribution to Montreal's reputation. Thanks to their commitment, Montreal will host 12 major conventions between 2024 and 2028, notably the EDAR7 Conference. These important events are generating an estimated economic impact of over $70.5 million. Read more: McGill Reporter News.
