Allyson Rogers

Allyson Rogers is a doctoral candidate in communication studies, co-supervised by Dr. Will Straw and Dr. Jonathan Sterne. She is the recipient of a Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Doctoral Scholarship (2018-2021). Her current research examines the musical aesthetics and social milieu of the National Film Board of Canada during the postwar years.

Allyson has a Master of Arts in Music and Culture (Carleton University), Bachelor of Music (University of Alberta), and Diploma in jazz performance (Grant McEwan University). She is the co-producer and arranger of The Romance of Improvisation in Canada (2018, Justin Time Records), an album that reimagines NFB composer Eldon Rathburn’s jazz film scores for contemporary jazz ensemble. She continues to perform regularly as a drummer in jazz, rock, and folk ensembles.
