The 2017 Acfas conference will mark 85 years of advancing the frontiers of knowledge, and I am delighted that McGill University will host this special event on our downtown campus. As the Francophonie’s largest multidisciplinary gathering of researchers, the annual Acfas conference has long played a crucial role in disseminating new knowledge and fostering innovation between diverse disciplines. McGill, too, is a place of convergence, a home to different ways of knowing, disciplines, cultural perspectives and languages. Each year at the Acfas conference, our researchers and students proudly exchange ideas and discoveries with their colleagues from around the world. We are proud to welcome this vital dialogue and the 2017 Acfas delegates to our city and our university.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is what distinguishes and emboldens the mission of Acfas, and it’s also what propels some of McGill University’s greatest research accomplishments. These discoveries are enormously varied: From ground-breaking new understandings of the genetics of pain emerging from McGill’s Integrated Neuroscience Program, to new collaborations on climate change adaptation that combine scientific research with policy development. McGill is honored to host the 2017 Acfas conference, where discoveries across disciplines are born and celebrated in French. As Montreal and Canada celebrate their past and look ahead, Acfas provides a platform for hopeful dispatches from the cutting edge of academic inquiry.
