IT Services is currently in the midst of upgrading the software underlying the Web Management System from Drupal version 6 to version 7. This upgrade will allow McGill to benefit from new developments within the Drupal open source community and also provides enhancements to commonly used functionality, such as image and file management, slideshows and blocks.
New for Site Editors and Managers:
There are several changes to the site editing/administration interface, which are documented in the IT Knowledge Base:
- *Index of Documentation for the Web Management System contains links to all WMS articles, with step-by-step instructions for content editing and site management tasks (instructions for the previous version are also still published).
- Overview of WMS 2014 is a narrated video, which demonstrates all the changes and new features.
- What’s New in WMS 2014 gives you a quick summary of the main differences between this new version of WMS and the version in use since 2010.
Schedule for site upgrades:
The Drupal 7 Upgrade project timeline has been extended through fall 2014. All websites on the WMS will be upgraded in batches over the coming months. Most site managers will be contacted approximately 2-3 weeks before their sites are scheduled to be upgraded on the staging environment (https://staging.mcgill.ca/sitename), to ensure they will be available to review the site contents during the final week before the upgraded site is made live to the public. For larger faculty sites, we will make arrangements with the owners to schedule their site upgrades on an individual basis.
