Le Fonds Wainwright a été créé conformément aux dernières volontés de feu Arnold Wainwright c.r., qui a légué une somme importante pour promouvoir la recherche et l’avancement du droit civil à l’Université McGill. Me Wainwright a enseigné le droit civil à la Faculté de droit de McGill de 1909 à 1934, date à laquelle lui a été décerné le titre de professeur émérite. L’Université lui attribuera, en 1963, un doctorat honoris causa pour reconnaître sa contribution insigne à la profession et à la recherche en droit civil.

La Faculté de droit de l’Université McGill a institué le Fonds Wainwright, dont la valeur est garantie contre l’inflation. La vaste mission de ce Fonds permet, année après année, de perpétuer la contribution remarquable de ce grand juriste québécois.
