Guided Tours

Downtown campus tours

The Welcome Centre offers different tours:

Prospective Students - The majority of tours are given to prospective undergraduate students. They are conducted by McGill students, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays), in English and French (by request). The prospective student tours focus on the history of McGill’s buildings, life in residence, student services, library resources, and clubs and societies.

Tour Times: Prospective Tours are offered generally twice on weekdays (10:30 am and 2:30 pm). We ask that you please register in advance to ensure a tour guide is available. Kindly view our tour schedule and book a tour online: McGill in Mind.

Important Note: Athletic facilities are NOT visited during the tour because of time constraints; however, tour takers are encouraged to visit them on their own either before or after the regular campus tour on weekdays. No reservations are required to visit athletics.
Please note that it is not possible to visit a residence during the Fall 2009 Exam Period (Monday, December 7 to Tuesday, December 22) and the Winter 2010 Exam Period (Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 30). You can find more information on residences here:www.mcgill.ca/residences/

Prospective Graduate Students - Tours for prospective graduate students are also offered. They are conducted by current students and cover the downtown campus, libraries, various graduate services, as well as Thomson House, the popular social centre reserved for the use of graduate students.

Tour Times: Graduate Tours are offered weekdays, at 11 am. We ask that you please register in advance to ensure a tour guide is available. Kindly email welcome your preferred weekday and the number of guests you will have with you.

Historical Tours - We can also provide more detailed historical tours of McGill for the general public. The tour covers the rise and development of the university and campus, as well as briefly outlines student life and current programs.

Schulich School of Music

The Schulich School of Music is housed in both the historic Strathcona Music Building and the new $50-million music complex, which includes a world class sound recording and music technology research facility and an extensive Music Library. In addition to a rehearsal space large enough for an entire orchestra, this complex provides considerable room for music instruction, practice, and performance in a near-perfect acoustic environment.

Founded as the Conservatorium of Music in 1904 and later incorporated as a faculty in 1920, the Schulich School of Music has enjoyed steady growth from a handful of students to its present position as the largest music school in Canada.

Staff and students present some 600 concerts and events each year in Pollack Hall, Redpath Hall, Clara Lichtenstein Recital Hall, and the Tanna Schulich Hall.

If you would like a tour of the Schulich School of Music or for further information, visit the Schulich School of Music web site, or contact the Schulich School of Music directly.
