On Sunday, June 8, 2008, 21 members of the Security Services team participated in the Missing Children's Network Dragon Boat Challenge held at the Saint-Paul Locks on the Lachine Canal. Dear Colleagues
I am very happy to announce that Shannon Lenhan of Building, Grounds and Special Events has been awarded an “Honorary Life Membership” in the McGill Alumni Association. This award is presented to a non-graduate who has demonstrated a long-term commitment of outstanding service to the Association and to the University. The full text of his award citation is reproduced below.
Shannon was presented with this prestigious award at an Honours and Awards Banquet held on May 24th 2007 at the St. James Club. The event was attended by several hundred people including alumni, senior administration, members of the Board of Governors, staff and students. His accomplishment was celebrated at this event by Marc Dozois, Gabriela Pinto and me, representing University Services, and by his wife, Karen.
I think that I speak for all of us when I say that we are all very proud of Shannon’s very important accomplishment. This award not only reflects well on Shannon, but also enhances our own reputation at McGill and demonstrates our strong commitment to service.
Please join me in extending our congratulations and thanks to Shannon.

Shannon has devoted his entire working life to McGill. He began in Physical Plant as a trade’s helper after he finished high school in 1988. He moved to the Grounds Department a year later, where he took care of landscaping and snow removal for five years. He has been part of the Special Events teams at Facilities Management since 1993 and is now Special Events Coordinator.
Shannon and his crew are involved in McGill’s “big” occasions, including Convocations, Homecoming, Welcome Week and Open House, and they ensure that everything happens seamlessly.
“He just knows how to get the job done,” says Maria Keenan, Associate director of Alumni Relations, who oversees Homecoming. “Everything is always in place long before we arrive for an event – whether it’s at 7 am or 7 pm.”
Says Shannon, “Meeting new people every day and having the chance to help out in their upcoming event is what I enjoy. I like coming to work knowing that I was part of the event shown on the news the night before, or that I will put a smile on someone’s face that day.” He says one occasion that put a smile on his face was having lunch with actors Katie Holmes and Benjamin Bratt when the movie Abandon was shot on campus.
“The McGill community has been really good to me, and I will do whatever it takes to give back.”

Mr. Peter Knox, Supervisor, Property Maintenance, has received the Macdonald Campus Award for Excellence for Administrative and Support Staff, which was presented by Dean Chandra Madramootoo during the Founder's Day celebrations in early February 2007.
This is the first year that Macdonald campus has formally honoured a member of the Administrative and Support Staff "who demonstrated outstanding performance and contribution in support of the promotion and development of the Macdonald campus and community – both in the execution of their duties and in the effort and commitment towards service."
Our congratulations to Peter for all the exceptional work he does for Macdonald and McGill, and his many years of dedication!
