Campus safety

ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST CITIES - AND ONE OF THE SAFEST. In Mercer’s 2011 Quality of Living index, Montreal tied for safest city in North America and ranked 17th worldwide. When you study at McGill, you get all the benefits of living and learning in a bustling metropolis - without the “big city” worry.

That said, you can never be too careful, and keeping our students safe is one of our top priorities. Here are just a few of the programs and initiatives that keep our campus’ incident free:

  • Security Services personnel patrol both campuses – and monitor the emergency phone line – 24 hours a day.
  • The Downtown campus has a network of emergency phones along walkways and other high-traffic locations.
  • Volunteer members of the student-run Walksafe program will escort anyone home, anywhere on the island of Montreal.
  • The free Drivesafe program drives students home from campus events and during scheduled patrols.
