United States High School Programs (within the US or in other countries)

Dear Counsellors and Advisers,

To date, most U.S. High School applicants to McGill have learned their admission status. Congratulations to those admitted! In order to maintain their place at McGill, admitted students should ensure that they confirm their acceptance of our offer by the deadline specified in the letter of admission. Activities for newly accepted students are now underway and we're looking forward to meeting your students at one of our events, on or off campus.

For those who were not admitted to their chosen program at McGill, we know that our decision is a disappointment. Once again this year, the number of applications for most McGill programs exceeded the number of places available. Admission is competitive and we are therefore not able to offer admission to many good students, nor can we reconsider refused applicants based on supplemental course work or final year results for most programs. Please keep in mind that McGill examines the overall academic record of its applicants. We review all coursework from grades 10, 11, and 12; looking specifically at any prerequisite courses relevant to the program choice. We also take into consideration SAT I and II scores and/or ACT results. Please consult our website for more information on prerequisite courses.

We will shortly be outlining the standards used for September 2012 admission on our website.

As in previous years, every applicant has the right to make a written request for reconsideration of an admission decision if they firmly believe that an error has been made in the review of their application. The procedures for doing so are outlined in the Reconsideration of an Admission Decision [.pdf] document located on our Applying to McGill Website (scroll to the bottom of the page).

Sincerely,

Kim Bartlett
